Minister
for Research and Technology / Chief Agency for the Assessment and
Application of Technology (BPPT) Kusmayanto Kadiman said the assessment
and development of hybrid engine technology in motor vehicles is a form
of contribution BPPT to the big cities to reduce pollution.
"This will make Indonesia a country that was free from pollution and will not be left behind on the issue of hybrid technology," said Kusmayanto, after the signing of the cooperation between the Institute of Thermodynamics, Motor and Propulsion (BTMP) with PT Honda Prospect Motor, on Research and Development of Hybrid Technology Puspitek Serpong Monday.
Flue gas generated by motor vehicles are the largest contributor to air pollution in urban areas. Some motor vehicle manufacturers have developed vehicles with a hybrid system that is energy efficient and low emission.
Kusmayanto said one international regulations are issued rules on the threshold of motor vehicle exhaust emissions by the implementation of the United Nations submitted to the country concerned.
Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Environment has taken positive steps to issue a decree of the Minister of Environment No. 141 of 2003 on the threshold of motor vehicle exhaust emissions and a new type of motor vehicles that are being produced. These regulations came into force in 2005.
In the near future gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles will enter the Indonesian market. To anticipate these technological advances, BPPT designated as the government agency has a variety of laboratory and human resources (HR) related competent automotive field.
BPPT currently has automotive test facilities such as the ability to test the engine and exhaust emission test, test construction and other tests are sufficient and can take a role in the assessment and application of hybrid technology.
Meanwhile, Head of Thermodynamics, Motor and Propulsion (BTMP) Darmitri Nila said, in the search for alternative fuels from fuel and reducing pollution from motor vehicle emissions, since 2003 BTMP with other units in the BPPT carry out the assessment and testing of vehicle motor by using alternative fuels.
"We have tried to CNG, Biodiesel and bioethanol. Tests carried out showed improved exhaust emissions significantly, "he said.
He said one motor vehicle technology development is being intensively carried gasoline electric hybrid engine technology which is also known as one of the eco-car (environmentally friendly vehicles).
"In addition to reducing pollution, hybrid technology can reduce fuel consumption by half. This technology combines a gasoline engine and electric motor also serves as a generator to recharge the batteries, "he explained.
The industry has done a lot of research and develop hybrid technologies including Honda, Toyota, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler.
